The hedgehog is a mammal, and is closely related to the mole. There are 15 species of hedgehog which inhabit Europe, Asia and Africa. Hedgehogs have needle-like spines covering their bodies which are actually thick, stiffened hairs, and they use these to protect themselves from predators. Hedgehogs usually roll up into a ball and sleep during the day, then wake up after nightfall and begin hunting for insects and other things to eat. This paper craft model is based on the four-toed hedgehog (or African pygmy hedgehog), a hedgehog popularly kept as a pet.
