[53 estaciones de Tokaido (Kakegawa)] The 53 Stations of Tokaido were originally published as "ukiyoe" pictures of landscapes and inns as observed by Hiroshige when he travelled while accompanying an official delegation from the Edo government to present horses to the Imperial court in Kyoto. The end of this bridge leads to the entrance of Mount Akiba. We see travelers and monks passing each other on their way across. Kites were apparently flown because comfortable breezes blew through the region during rice-planting season. Image provision: Adachi Traditional Wood Block Foundation
