Using the palettes

Although Photoshop has a daunting array of functions, the most often used functions are palletized and can be accessed smoothly. Here, the fundamental palettes and their operation are introduced.

Palettes used during retouching
NAVIGATOR palette

The area and the present magnification are displayed. The magnification can be changed with the slider.
INFO palette

Color and position information, etc. of the present mouse pointer are displayed.
COLOR palette

Foreground and background color information are displayed.
HISTORY palette

Each operation is registered as a history. Clicking on a history returns the image to that point.
TOOL PRESET palette

Settings of frequently-used tools can be recorded and reused. (Note: Some tools cannot be preset.)
LAYER palette

The condition of a layer can be displayed, or layers created, deleted, or moved.
CHANNEL palette

The channel list of the image is displayed and managed. The composition of a channel changes according to the [mode] selected on the [image] menu.
PATHS palette

Paths and their shape are displayed.
FILE BROWSER

The FILE browser is laid out like Windows Explorer with a tree on the left and thumbnails on the right. Although it is not a palette, in the default condition it is stored in the palette well. It can display also from [Browse] on the [file] menu.
BRUSH palette

The brush is indispensable in creating mask. By default the brush palette is stored in palette well. A detailed setup of a brush tool is performed, so shape, etc. need not be reset every time.
COLOR SAMPLE palette

Often used color can be registered. Moreover, there are also colors prepared beforehand, such as a Web color and PANTONE.
STYLE palette

Special picture processing styles which can be used with a layer style or the shape tool are registered.
ACTION palette

Actions which automate work are registered or performed. Some actions are registered beforehand.
