Use the Crop tool
to eliminate an unnecessary part of an image, and crop the image to fit the printer paper.
One of the Crop tools enables you to specify the size and resolution after you have cropped the image. The parameters
are specified in the Tool Option bar. The other Crop tool does not allow you to specify these parameters. If you determine
the specific printer paper such as a postcard size or 4x6 size, crop the image to fit the printer paper without generating
a margin by specifying the size and resolution. If you set the resolution to approximately 300 dpi, a high-quality image
equivalent to a photo will be printed. |
|

|
In the example, we will crop
the edge of the photo of the cows peacefully idling by the riverside so that the cows will look larger,
and crop the image to fit the 4x6 format at the same time. |

|
| From the toolbox, select the Crop tool. Specify the size and resolution
in the Tool Option bar. Since this photo is in the 4x6 format and horizontally oriented,
the width is set to 6 in and the height to 4 in after cropping. The resolution is set to
300 dpi. |

|
Drag the area you wish to crop.
As the width and height are specified, the area will be specified while maintaining the aspect ratio.
When you drag the marquee, the external area becomes dark and the portion of the image that remains
is clear. To change the area after you have released the mouse button, move the pointer to the corner
of the selected areas. |

|
Once you have determined the
area you wish to crop, click the button
on the Tool Option bar to execute the crop. The same operation can be performed by double-clicking
over the area that you have dragged, instead of using the button.
This operation makes the image fit the 4x6 format. |

|
With the Crop tool, it is possible
to change the angle of the image as well as crop it. Let's practice this operation. |

|
The image below is the same image
of the ranch as before, but it is slanted to the right. Crop it in the 4x6 format (6 in wide by 4
in high) with the resolution set to 300 dpi, while correcting the angle. |

|
Specify the area you wish to
crop by dragging. |

|
After specifying the areas to
be cropped, move the mouse to the dotted line indicating the area. The mouse pointer changes to one
indicating rotation. Drag the mouse to the left or right and upward or downward to rotate the area
to be cropped. Adjust it to the appropriate angle.
You may have to specify the area to be cropped again depending on the angle after adjustment. In this case, make the
adjustment by dragging the pointer to the corner. |

|
Once you decide on the area to
be cropped and the angle, click the button
in the Tool Option bar to execute the crop. The image is cropped and is rotated to the specified
angle. |
