Using Retouching to Change Photos

The retouched photo is brighter overall. The blue tint has been removed, giving a softer feel. The impression it gives is completely different from that of the original.
Brightness and tint correction are basic parts of photo retouching. Try them yourself.

The original photo is dark and has a blue tint. It doesn't much look like a bright scene of girls chatting on a Hawaiian beach, does it? We will retouch it to make it bright and lively.

Procedure
1.[Open] the photo and [save] a copy
Always work on a copy of the original photo. That way, if you make a mistake, the original remains unaltered.
2. Crop to print size
For this demonstration, we will crop the image to fit 4x6 in / 10x15 cm printer paper.
3. Print original image
Print out the image and decide on what areas need retouching.
You can see things more easily on a printed copy than you can on a display.
4. Decide on the areas to be retouched
Identify specific areas where retouching will improve the image.
5. Click white balance adjustment
Retouch the brightness, contrast, and color tint all in one step.
6. Save the retouched master image
When you are done retouching the image, save it before printing.
7. Unsharp mask
Run your image through the Unsharp Mask before printing.
8. Print retouched photo
Print the retouched image and compare it with the print of the unretouched image.
