When you adjust the contrast using the tone curve, excessive
emphasis may be added to the tint colors. In the image of the man, emphasis was added to the red tint of
the skin, and blue and magenta in the white portions of the cap. Pinpoint and fix the extraneous elements
using the slider to adjust the saturation in the channels of [Hue and Saturation]. |
 |
Load the selected area of the portrait of the man, and make
adjustments using the adjustment layer of [Hue and Saturation]. |
 |
Make sure the extraneous tint colors in the channels
of [Hue and Saturation]. |
 |
 |
First, we will adjust the red tint
of the skin. Move the [Saturation] adjustment slider in the middle of the screen over to the negative direction,
while watching what effects they have on the screen. For references, the saturation level is set to -25
to keep a touch of a red tint. Lowering the saturation too much makes the image gray without any tint,
so be careful to what level you set it. The parameters set in the figure are for reference only, and you
can set any parameter you want. |
 |
 |
Next, we will adjust the channels of
blue and magenta, which are not needed for the white potions of the cap. Move the [Saturation] adjustment
slider in the blue channel over to the negative direction, and set it to -60 to remove the dull color of
the white portions of the cap. |
 |
 |
Similarly, move the [Saturation] adjustment
slider over to the negative direction, and set it to -30, while seeing the effects they have on the white
portions of the cap. |
 |
The extraneous tint colors are fixed. |
 |

| If you have set
a tint color of the clothes or other items that you do not want to set, along with the tint
color that you want to correct, you can restore the original tint color later. To do so,
please see "10-2 Nullify some previously applied tone curve corrections." |
