9. Adjust the hue and saturation of the background

We will improve the color of the background by using [Hue/Saturation]. You can readily bring out the brightness of colors.
9-1 Adjust hue and saturation
After loading the selected area of the background, create a [Hue/Saturation] adjustment layer.

There is an easier way to load the selected area of the background compared to loading it from the [Select] menu. In this example, we will use the layer mask thumbnail in the layer palette and the Ctrl key. Hold down the Ctrl key, and click over the layer mask thumbnail of the tone curve adjustment layer of the background, which was created in the previous section. The selected area of the background is loaded.
We will create the adjustment layer of [Hue/Saturation], and make adjustments by raising the [Saturation] slider. Make adjustments by channel. Personal preferences play a part in retouching of this sort, so it is best to observe the image as you make these adjustments.
Move the saturation slider by +10 in the red channel to add a tint to the building and the stones, and not to add too much emphasis on the reddish spots of the building.
Move the saturation slider by +10 in the yellow channel to add a tint to the building, the grasses and trees, and not to add too much emphasis on the tint color of the grasses.
Move the saturation slider by +25 in the green channel to add a tint to part of the grasses, trees, and the bed of the truck, and not to add too much emphasis on the bed of the truck.
Keep the cyan, blue, and magenta colors unchanged, as they are unnecessary tint colors.
The retouched photo brings out the tint color of the background compared to the untouched photo.
