We will adjust the contrast of the slightly underexposed background, and sharpen the background. It is advisable not to make drastic adjustments given the balance between the man as the main character and the sky.
8-1 Adjust tone curve
Load the selected area of the background to create an adjustment layer.
From the layer palette, click [Fill or create a new adjustment layer] to create a new adjustment layer. This operation is the same as when you choose [New Adjustment Layer] from the [Layers] menu. In this example, we will create an adjustment layer using the [Fill or create a new adjustment layer] button.
Make the bright portions much brighter and the dark portions much darker, so that the contrast will be enhanced.

Click over the darkest portions caused by the shadows on the image or other factors, and display the pointer. We will create a pointer for the dark portions based on the location.
Move the pointer slightly downward, so that the dark portions will be much darker. Similarly, create a pointer for the brightest area in the white portions of the cap, and raise the pointer slightly upward to make them much brighter.
Form an S letter of the tone curve, so that the contrast will be slightly enhanced without smudging the dark portions or making the bright portions washed out.
The background, which was slightly blurred before, becomes sharper.
