First, we will erase the electric wires and dust particles,
as they are quite conspicuous. In the Intermediate Operations, we used the Patch Tool. In the Advanced
Operations, we will remove the dust particles using the Clone Stamp Tool. These activities will enable
you to become familiar with the different tools. This tool is intended to copy the target image to the
destination at the specified size. This operation can be done with the Patch tool as well. |
 |
 |
| Select the Clone Stamp Tool from the Toolbox, and
specify the size and copy mode in the Tool Option Bar. In this example, the copy size is set
to 100 and the copy mode is set to Normal. The Opacity parameter specifies the opacity of the
copied image, and is set to 100. Also, Aligned is checked to preserve the distance between
the area to be copied and the destination. |

Let's erase the electric wires. Enlarge the portion containing
the electric wire so that the work becomes easier. After you have enlarged the portion, select the Clone
Stamp Tool. Hold down the Alt key and click over the area to be copied to specify it. Specify a location
close to the area that you wish to erase, namely the portion containing the electric wire, so that the
finished image looks natural.
After specifying the area to be copied, release the Alt key. Then click over and drag the portion containing the electric
wires using the mouse. The image to be copied is copied to the location where you clicked, and the electric wires are erased.
Repeat the above steps to erase all the electric wires. If the finished image looks unnatural, change the size
and opacity. |
 |

Select the Clone Stamp Tool. Hold down the Alt key and click over an area close
to the electric wires |
 |

After specifying the area to be copied, click and drag over the portions containing
the electric wires |

All the electric wires were erased |

 |
| We will erase the particles of dust that are a cause
for concern. This image was scanned from negative film, and it is inevitable for scanned images
to be contaminated with dust to some degree. For this demonstration of erasing the particles
of dust, we will use the Clone Stamp Tool again. There are particles of dust in several locations
in the image. In the example, we will remove the dust adhering to the man's arm, which seems
very difficult. When you erase particles of dust close to the outline of a subject, as we will
do in this example, specify the area to be copied carefully. The key is to specify the area
to be copied and the copy destination as if you are extending the outline. |
|
 |
 |
 |
|
 |

Specify the area to be copied at a location where you will extend the outline
of the arm. Hold down the Alt key and click over the area to be copied to specify it |
 |

Click over the dirt that you want to erase. If the dirt is erased but the outline
is not longer in position, the process is a failure. You need to specify the area to be copied again,
and redo the process |
