| Open the image to be used. Double-click the background layer in the [Layers] palette.
In the dialog box that appears, accept the settings and click [OK]. The background layer changes to Layer
0. |

| Click [Create a new layer] button in the [Layers] palette. A new layer, Layer 1, is
created. Drag this layer below Layer 0. |

| To hide Layer 0, click its eyeball icon. The screen becomes a lattice pattern of gray
and white, indicating transparent status with no image. Make sure that Layer 1 is selected in the [Layers]
palette. |

| Select the gradation colors on the [Swatches] palette. First, select a foreground
color by clicking [Dark Blue Violet]. Next, select a background color by clicking [Light Violet Magenta]
while holding down the [Ctrl] key. |

| Select the [Gradient Tool] from the toolbox. Click [Linear Gradient] on the [Options]
bar. Then, click the [Gradient picker] triangle and select Foreground to Background. |

| Point a bit below the center of the screen and drag down. To drag straight down, hold
the [Shift] key down while dragging. The entire screen fills with the foreground and background colors with
a gradation in the dragged area. |
