If you look at a photo in a newspaper through a magnifying glass, you will find that
the shading is expressed with a number of dots of different sizes. Usually, the larger dots appear dark to
human eyes while the smaller dots appear light. The [Color Halftone] filter replaces the shading of the colors
in a photo with round dots of different sizes. Using this filter, you can make a photo look like an illustration
of dot representation (halftone). The result is suitable for being pinned up on a wall like a poster. |

The [Color Halftone] filter converts the shading in a color photo into
a number of small dots similar to halftone dots in a color print. In this example, however, the color image
is first converted into a grayscale image. Then, the [Color Halftone] filter is applied to convert it into
black dots of different sizes. These black dots are then combined with the original color image to produce
a rhythmical, colorful illustration. |

1.Converting the color image
into a representation of black dots and saving it with a new name
Open the original color image, change its mode to grayscale, and adjust its brightness using [Levels].
Then, apply the [Color Halftone] filter to this monochrome image to convert it into a representation
of black dots and save it with a new name. |

2.Opening and blurring the
original image and making the colors vivid
Open the original color image again and blur it using the [Gaussian Blur] filter. Then, use [Hue/Saturation]
to make the image colors vivid. This is a preparatory step to making the image appear clearer when
combined with dots. |

3.Combining black dots with
the color image
Copy and paste the black dots onto the color image. Fill the white areas between the dots with
gradations. To finish, adjust [Blending Mode] and [Opacity]. |
