| Open the image. In this example, the extensive area is in focus. To emphasize the
girl in front, blur the other areas. |

| Select the areas other than that of the girl. Double-click [Edit in Quick Mask Mode]
in the toolbox, make sure that [Masked Areas] is selected, and click [OK] in the dialog box. |

Select the [Brush Tool] in the toolbox, and make sure that [Foreground color] is set
to black.
Select the larger size brush on the [Tool options] bar. |

| Drag and mark out the area of the girl using quick mask. You can correct the detailed
parts later. The part marked will be colored in transparent red. You can erase any part that is incorrectly
marked using the [Eraser Tool]. Do not worry if you are not exactly on your desired line. |

| Correct the detailed parts. Change the brush type and size on the [Tool options] bar,
and zoom in the image size. Carefully redraw the border of the area that you selected in [1-4]. |

| After selecting the area of the girl in quick mask mode, switch to the standard mode.
Click [Edit in Standard mode] in the lower part of the toolbox. A dotted line representing the selected part
appears, indicating that the mode has changed. |
