4. Making the Scotch tape part appear transparent

4-1 Duplicate the tape layer
 Make sure that the tape layer is selected in the Layers palette. Select [Duplicate Layer] from the [Layer] menu. A dialog appears. Click [OK].


4-2 Change opacity of the tape layer
 Make the layer named Tape Copy hidden in the Layers palette. Select the tape layer, and set [Opacity] to 80% in the layers palette.



4-3 Select Layer 0 and load the selected area
 Select Layer 0 from the layers palette. Select [Load Selected Areas] from the [Selected Areas] menu. A dialog appears. Make sure that [Channel] is set to [Layer 0 Transparency] and that [Invert] is not checked. Click [OK]. The selected area is created in the image of Layer 0.



4-4 Partially delete the image of the tape layer
 Select the tape layer in the Layers palette while keeping the target area selected. Press the [Backspace] key (the [Delete] on the Macintosh) to delete the part where the Scotch tape overlaps the image. Keep the target area selected.



4-5 Invert the selected area
 Select [Invert Selected Areas] from the [Selected Areas] menu. Click the layer named Tape Copy in the layers palette.



4-6 Partially delete the image of the layer named Tape Copy
 Press the [Backspace] key to delete the part of the tape that sticks out of the image. Select [Release] from the [Selected Areas] menu.



4-7 Change [Blending Mode] of the layer named Tape Copy
 Change [Blending Mode] of the layer named Tape Copy to [Overlay] in the Layers palette.
