Information:
There are approximately 20,000 named types of longhorn beetles throughout in the world, with some 800 types living in Japan. The white striped longhorn beetle, a type well-known in Japan, is the largest species of longhorn beetle in the country, growing to approximately five centimeters in length. Its characteristics include yellow and white striped patterns on its body, long antenna and large compound eyes, and large, highly-developed jaws. The white striped longhorn beetle eats chestnuts, pears, figs, and other trees, and this damage has sometimes earned it the label of a pest to fruit trees. When agitated - for example, when held in someone's hand - it rubs its thorax to make a rattling sound intended to scare off predators.
