Angels are servants of God who appear in Scriptures, primarily of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. In the early days of Christianity, people didn't imagine angels with wings, now their outstanding visual characteristic. The image of angels commonplace today are believed to have emerged later due to elements from other religions that had spread across Persia and other parts of the world. Although angels were generally imagined as young men at first, by the Renaissance, they came to be depicted in paintings, sculpture, and other works of art as women and children.
