What is Rugby?

Rugby is one of the most well-loved sports in the world, and is said to be played by more than 3 million people.
Two teams consisting of 15 players each, fight for possession of an oval-shaped ball, scoring points by either touching the ball to the ground in their opponent's in-goal area (a try), or kicking the ball over the crossbar between the two posts standing at the goal line (a goal).

Officially known as rugby football, the sport is said to have originated at the well-known Rugby School in England, when a player named William Webb Ellis ran for the goal with the ball in hand during a game of football. Rugby is based on the sentiment of "one for all, all for one," meaning that all people involved should enjoy the sport, regardless of whose side they are on, and the teams mutually celebrate a healthy contest. For this reason, despite involving a lot of intense physical contact, rugby is known as a "gentleman's sport."
