Star Festival

Star festivals are celebrated in several Asian countries including Japan, China, Vietnam, and Korea. They are thought to originate in the Chinese seasonal festival, held in summer, on the seventh day of the seventh month (or the eighth month if going by the Chinese lunisolar calendar). In Japan, the star festival, known as "Tanabata," is said to have become popular in the Edo Period. It is said that any wishes written on a note card and hung on a bamboo branch at Tanabata are sure to come true. Every year festivals and events are held for Tanabata all over Japan.
