Japanese Seasonal Festivals Shichi-Go-San 
Shichi-Go-San (Seven-Five-Three) is a festival unique to Japan which celebrates children's growth and prays for their future health. In general, boys aged 3 and 5, and girls aged 3 and 7, which are considered pivotal ages, dress up in special kimonos and visit the shrine or temple. The children eat long, tube-shaped sweets known as "chitose ame," their red and white colors are said to bring good luck and ensure the children grow up healthily and live a long life.
This Sash Tie Decoration is an original paper craft which includes the kimono sash which girls wear to the Shichi-Go-San (Seven-Five-Three) festival in the center, and a fan, "hako seko" (decorative purse), zori sandals, Chitose sweets, and a pouch. The kimono sash and sweets are decorated with symbols of good luck such as pine, bamboo, and plum blossoms, and cranes and tortoises.
