[Wind God and Thunder God - Wind God]This paper relief depicts the wind god from "Wind God and Thunder God," a Japanese national treasure artwork created by Tawaraya Sōtatsu in the early seventeenth century. Wind God and Thunder God (Wind God) portrays the wind god atop a black cloud with the wind-creating bag in his hand. The work features an elaborate gold leaf background, and was created using the technique known as "tarashikomi" with silver leaf and India ink. The dark clouds give the feeling of limitless space. It is a unique work which leaves viewers with a very powerful impression.
