[36 views of Mount Fuji - Mannen Bridge at Fukagawa] The 36 views of Mount Fuji, by the "ukiyoe" painter Katsushika Hokusai, are a collection of views of Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in Japan, seen from various areas. When this collection first appeared, it attracted incredible popularity indicative of the reverence held by the Japanese people towards Mount Fuji at the time. The beautiful arch of Mannen Bridge stands prominently at the center of this work and a variety of people are busily making their way across it. Mount Fuji is visible from underneath the bridge, lending an interesting twist that makes this print appear to also be depicting a completely different scene.
